The ALF Tacoma/Pierce County Chapter, located in the scenic south Puget Sound
region of Washington state, was originally founded and funded for six years for
Classes I-VI from 1989-95. In 2000, a dedicated Board of ALF graduates recognized
the need for an ongoing collaborative leadership initiative in the community and
re-started the chapter. Since then, nine additional classes have completed the
year-long Fellows program, and another is in progress, bringing the total number
of ALF leaders in Pierce County to over 315.
The Tacoma/Pierce County Chapter’s purpose is to enhance individual leadership
skills, to build trust and relationships among community leaders, and to increase
each participant’s commitment to community leadership and service. Through its
Fellows and Senior Fellows Programs, the chapter is building a growing network
of leaders who have learned the dynamics of collaborative leadership and are committed
to serving the Pierce County community. The recent Philanthropy Northwest Conference
program cited ALF participants as “having had a transforming impact and influence
throughout the county, including Tacoma’s revitalization.”
